Sport, like all parts of society, is highly dependent on the services of intact ecosystems, which in turn depend on a high level of biodiversity. He can benefit from using these services and, conversely, experience significant negative consequences for business operations if they are restricted or eliminated.

However, these connections are not so easy for a soccer club to recognize because dependencies and influences are not obvious.

For the professional soccer club VfL Wolfsburg, we investigated how biodiversity affects the club's business activities and what influence the club has on biodiversity. We have clearly shown how and where VfL can and should act.

The special role model of professional soccer players and the close connection with the club's fans also play a role.
